JHT-03 Multifunctional Methylal Improver

1. Introduction

In order to reduce the cost, methylal is widely used as a raw material during the process of improving the oil quality, but some disadvantages are still existing:

a. Low octane number. The octane number of methylal is only 76.

b. Vapor pressure is large. Methylal’s boiling poing is 42.3 °C, it is easy to produce vapor lock in summer.

c. Short of power. Methylal’s oxygen content is 42.1%. If mix more methylal in the process of blending oil, the oxygen content will be excessive. During the process of combustion, oxygen just play the role of combustion assistant, it can’t produce heat. Therefore, mixing too much methylal in oil will cause oil heating value decreased and increase fuel consumption.

d. It will be emulsified when meet with water. Methylal is the product of methanol and formaldehyde dehydration under catalyst conditions, which methanol content is exceed. So when mix methylal with oil, water soluble test can’t be passed.

Due to its disadvantages, methylal can not be added into oil in a large proportion, and the oil with small proportion methylal can’t be used in summer.

Based on the above information, Puyang Jiahua Chemical Co., Ltd. and China Petroleum Science and Technology Research Institute have researched and tested for many years, a multi-functional improver has been developed successfully, and has been verified in many oil companies, its functions are as below,

a. Inhibit the evaporation of oil, reduce oil saturation vapor pressure, prevent the generation of vapor lock and overcome the methylal disadvantage that can not be used in the summer

b. Improve methylal combustion performance, increase the heat value of fuel methylal, reduce the consumption of reconcile fuel. The consumption of blended oil is equivalent to the national standard oil. This agent can be also used in methanol gasoline and ethanol gasoline.

c. High octane number. The octane number of this improver is higher than130, it can improve oil antiknock propertity.

d. This improver can solve the problem that methylal will be emulsified with water and the problem of insoluble in water. It can improve the detergency of oil, keep the oilway and nozzle clean, prolong the nozzle life and promote the complete consumption of oil. It can decrease oil consumption, reduce the emission of harmful gas in tail gas.

3.    Method

Add 10% of the improver (mass ratio) to gasoline, then fully mixed.
