Physical & Chemical | White or light yellow crystalline powder. Specific gravity 2.49, FUP 248-261°C. Tastes salty and cool. Readily absorbs moisture and readily soluble in water. Slightly soluble in ethanol. Decomposes above 300 °C to release oxygen. Shows strong oxidizing action in acid solution. |
Use: | Mainly used to produce chlorine dioxide, sodium chlorite as well as other chlorate and perchlorate products. Also used for paper pulp bleaching, weedicide, oxidant production, printing and dyeing, alutation, pharmaceutical, smelting, ore processing and extraction of bromine from sea water. |
