PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF THE PRODUCT

The finished product is of white monoclinic crystal powder of a relative density of 1.48, with strong SO2 smell when being wet but without any other smell after it is dried. It is easy to solve in water to form acidic solution and disintegrate when heated, and slightly soluable in ethanol. It is highly reductive and easy to be oxidized or lose its SO2 in air. It can be made by passing SO2 through NaOH or solution of carbonic acid.
