Chromium carbide is extremely hard refractory ceramic material, is highly corrosion-resistant, not oxidize at high temperature.
Chromium carbide is an extremely hard refractory ceramic material.
It has the appearance of a gray powder with orthorhombic crystal
structure. Its density is 6.65-6.6g/cm3. It is insoluble in water. It is
highly corrosion-resistant, and does not oxidize even at high temperature (1000-1100 °C). Chromium carbide is used as a thermal spray material for protecting underlying metal surfaces, as an additive to corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant materials, and as a fine-crystal phase in other sintered carbides.
