1.The physical chemistry properties of allantoin

The chemical name of allantoin is (2,5-Dioxo-4-imidazolidinyl)urea, CAS No:97-59-6,which is a kind of colorless or white crystal powder. Allantoin has ketonic structure and is odourless. Its melting point is 228-233°C (It will decompose). It does not dissolve in cool water, alcohol, ether and chloroform, and dissolves in hot water and glycerol. Its saturated solution(0.6%) is weak acid(PH=6). It is stable in PH=4-9 water solution, but it will decompose when boiled in the alkaline solution.

Applications of Allantoin

  1.Cosmetics

    Allantoin is a fine cosmetics raw material. The cosmetics containing allantoin has the efficacy of smoothing skin, protecting skin, absorbing water and keeping humidity from lost, etc.. It can make skin softer and more flexibile. Shampoo containing allantoin can prevent hair from furcating, and make hair softer, smoother, more flexible, blacker and shinier.

   2.Medical

    Allantoin can treat dermatosis or alleviate symptoms of dermatosis, e.g. skin dryness, ulceration and psoriasis. It can also be used in curing diseases such as diabetes, myelitis, hepatocirrhosis and cancer. Allantoin aminoacetic acid complex can be used as adiaphoretic, be used as deodorant, and can heal up wound, smooth and moisten skin, make the periostracum separate, promote to shed, and stanch. The polygalactose complexes made off allantoin are good softeners and have good therapeutic effect to the superannuated skin, eczema, and acne.

   3.Agriculture

    Allantoin is the plant growth regulator. It can stimulate the growth of the plant and improve the productivity of wheat, orange, rice, soybean, and vegetable. And it has the function of protecting fruit and ripening fruits.   

     4.Other applications

    Allantoin salicylic salt which is made off allantoin, can be used in surgery treatment,and be used as food antiseptic, dyestuff intermediate.

    Allantoin can be used in producing some biochemical reagents, Such as chloro-hydroxy-allantoin aluminum, allantoin protein, and chloro-hydroxy-allantoin glycin aluminum.
