Emodin do not dissolve in water, can dissolve in ethanol, slightly soluble in ether, chloroform, soluble in alkaline aqueous solution, sodium carbonate solution or ammonia solution in a significant red cherry. Emodin has strong antibacterial activity, emodin effective inhibitory concentration of 1.5 ~ 2.5ug/ml. Ehrlich ascites cancer cells with strong inhibition of respiration, a certain degree of selectivity of emodin. Emodin can be used to cholagogic, spasmolytic, lower blood pressure.
