Manufacturing technology: Metal Injection Molding

1. Conception

Metal Injection Modeling (MIM) is a new manufacturing process of complex and precision components. In this low-cost and high-precision technology, metal powders are blended and mixed with a polymer and additives to comprise a 'feedstock' capable of being handled by plastic processing equipment through a process known as injection mold forming. The molding process allows complex parts to be shaped in a single operation and in high volume. The binder is removed from the green parts in a continuous process under a highly defined and controlled temperature-time profile. Subsequently, the parts are sintered to their final density.
