Given low manufacturing expense and convenient utilization, Oshaped seal ring is widely applied in various dynamic and static sealing conditions.
The standard is as follows:
Most of the countries have stipulated the series product standard for Oshaped
seal ring: American standard (AS568), Japanese standard (JISB2401) and international standard (ISO 3601/1) are generally adopted.

Sealing mechanism:
Oshaped seal ring is a kind of automatic twoway sealing element. During the installation, its radial and axial precompression has offered an initial sealing ability in Oshaped seal ring. It will increase with the upgrading of system pressure.

Seal Ring:
1.Work medium and conditions During the selection of Oshaped ring materials, the compatibility with work medium shall be first considered. Besides, various work conditions shall be taken comprehensive consideration such as pressure, temperature, continuous work time and operational circulation in the sealing position. In case of rotational place, the temperature increase caused by abrasive heat must be considered. Different materials of sealing parts shall have different physical and chemical performance. Please see the Form of Raw Materials Features of Rubber Sealing Parts for detailed information.
2.Sealing form
According to the load type, it can be divided into dynamic sealing and static sealing,according to the sealing purpose, it can be divided into hole sealing, bearing sealing and rotational bearing sealing, according to the installation form, it can be divided into radial installation and axial installation. During the radial installation, the deviation between internal diameter of Oshaped ring and sealed diameter d2 shall be reduced to the minimum extent for axial sealing, as for the hole sealing, its internal diameter shall be equal to or a little smaller than the groove diameter d1  The pressure direction shall be considered during the axial installation. In case of internal pressure, the external diameter of Oshaped ring shall be about 12% larger than the groove external diameter d3,In case of external pressure, the internal diameter of Oshaped ring shall be about 13% smaller than the groove internal diameter.

Other elements affecting sealing performance
1,Hardness of Oshaped ring
The material hardness of Oshaped ring is the most important index to evaluate the sealing performance. The hardness has decided the compression volume of Oshaped ring and maximum allowable extruding space of groove. Since Shore A70 BunaN rubber can meet most utilization conditions, we will not explain the sealing materials. Generally speaking, Shore A70 BunaN rubber shall be provided.
2,Extruding space
The maximum allowable extruding space gmax is related to the system pressure, section diameter of Oshaped ring and material hardness. Generally speaking, the higher work pressure will reduce the maximum allowable extruding space gmax. Once the space g has exceeded the allowable scope, Oshaped ring will be extruded and damaged.
3,Compression set
Compression set of materials is another index to evaluate the sealing performance of Oshaped ring. Under the pressure effect, Oshaped ring will have elastic deformation as the elastic element,It will suffer from permanent plastic deformation with pressure increase. The compression set d can be confirmed according to the following formula:  

 In the formula: b0original hardness (section diameter W), b1thickness under compression status, b2released thickness Generally speaking, the maximum allowable compression volume of Oshaped ring is about 30% in the static sealing and about 20% in the dynamic sealing in order to prevent permanent plastic deformation

  Remark:
1. The shield ring is recommended once the pressure has exceeded 5 MPa.
2. The coordination is recommended to be H7/g6 in the static sealing place.
4. Precompression volume In order to guarantee the sealing performance, an initial compression volume shall be reserved in the groove installation of Oshaped ring. The precompression volume of section diameter W will be different in different applications. Generally speaking, it is about 15%30% in the static sealing and about 9%25% in the dynamic sealing. Please refer to the following figures and forms for selection.
5. Stretch and compression
Once the Oshaped ring is installed in the groove, it shall be stretched or compressed. The excessive stretch and compression value will excessively increase or reduce the section of Oshaped ring since 1% stretch will reduce the section diameter W by about 0.5%. As for the hole sealing, Oshaped ring shall be best in the stretching status with a maximum allowable stretch volume of 6%,as for the axial sealing, Oshaped ring shall be best compressed along the circumference direction with a maximum allowable circumference compression volume of 3%.
6. Oshaped
ring for sealing the rotational bearing Oshaped ring can also be adopted to seal the rotational bearing in low speed rotation and with short operational circulation. Once the circumference velocity is lower than 0.5 m/s, the heat shrinkage of pulled rubber ring must be considered. Therefore, the internal diameter of seal ring shall be about 2% larger than its sealing bearing diameter. After groove installation of seal ring, it will suffer from radial compression and Oshaped ring will form a trace ripple in the groove which will improve the lubrication conditions.
7. Installation compressive force
During the installation, the compressive force is related to the initial compression degree and materials hardness. The following figure has shown the relationship between unit compressive force and section diameter in each centimeter sealing circumference and it will be adopted to estimate the total force in the installation of Oshaped ring.
