5CrNiMo/1.2713 /1.2714/55NiCrMoV6/ 56NiCrMoV7/55NiCrMoV7/SKT4/55NCDV7

Description

This is one of the special purpose, low alloy tool steel grades, similar to the W group of low alloy tool steels. L6 contains nickel, chromium and molybdenum for a good combination of toughness and hardenability.

Applications

Typically used in machine tool applications such as bearings, springs, rollers or chuck parts, plastic moulds, molds for forging, stamps, die holders and piercers.

Soft Annealing
Heat to 670-700oC, cool slowlyin furnace. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 250.

Stress Relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to approx. 650oC, holding for 1-2 hours at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.

Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 830-870oC followed by oil quenching. Hardness after quenching is 57-61 HRC.

Tempering
Tempering temperature: 400-700oC.
