Application

Amikacin Sulfate, is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used to treat different types of bacterial infections. It eliminates bacteria that cause many kinds of infections, including lung, skin, bone, joint, stomach, blood, and urinary tract infections.

Most often used for treating severe, hospital-acquired infections with negative bacteria. Amikacin may be combined with a beta-lactum antibiotic for empiric therapy for people with neutropenia and fever.

Storage

Amikacin sulfate should be stored at room temperature (15-30°C); freezing or temperatures above 40°C should be avoided. Solutions may become very pale yellow with time, but this does not indicate a loss of potency. Amikacin is stable for at least 2 years at room temperature. Autoclaving commercially available solutions at 15 pounds of pressure at 120°C for 60 minutes did not result in any loss of potency. When stored for more than 12 months, quality should be checked before use.
