6. Place the key into the keyway on the shaft then slide the pinion over the key. An R is embossed on one end of the pinion. This end should face the right side of the housing. Slide another locking element onto the shaft, noting the orientation. Slide another lock nut into position on the shaft. 7. Continue to slide the assembled shaft into the housing so the hex end of the shaft extends .50 inches from the outer surface of the housing. Us- ing Loctite 222 on the threads of the set screws, tighten the set screws in the collar clamp bearings onto the flats of the pinion shaft. 8. Center the pinion on the shaft then, using the 1-1/8 wrench (47146101) to hold the left hand nut on the pinion, apply 100 in-lbs of torque to the hex end of the pinion drive shaft. Repeat this step for the right hand on the pinion. Apply a light coat of Magnalube to the teeth of the pinion. 9. Set key in keyway slot of the pinion drive shaft. Align the coupling with the edge of the keyway slot, then using Loctite 222 on the threads of the set screw in the coupling, tighten the set screw down onto the key. Using Loctite 222 on the threads of the set screw in the left side of the coupling, secure the coupling to the drive shaft using the cou- pling set screw.
