3 Select the Edit menu option. The component definition is displayed. The selected component definition can also be displayed by double-clicking on the component in the Components list box. 4 Make the desired changes to the component definition. 5 From the Component window, select the Component menu bar heading. 6 Select the Save menu option to save the changes. The changes are now a permanent part of the component database. Copy Use the Copy option to copy a selected component using a different name. The new component is added to the current category. This option is only available if a component is selected in the Components list box. To copy a component definition: 1 From the Components list box, select the component to be copied. 2 Select the Component menu bar heading. 3 Select the Copy menu option. The Copy Component dialog box is displayed with the name of component selected to be copied in the title bar of the dialog box. 4 Enter a unique name for the new component in the Component Name data field. 5 Select OK. The new component name is displayed in the Components list box. Alias Use the Alias option to copy a selected component using a different name and create a link between the two. This means that if one component is altered, the other is automatically altered. The new component is added to the current category. For example, if the lead diameter is changed for a series of components that are aliased, the lead diameter only needs to be changed once. A component must be selected in the Components list box before this option is available. To alias a component: 1 From the Components list box, select the component to be aliased. 2 Select the Component menu bar heading. 3 Select the Alias menu option. The Alias Component dialog box is displayed. 4 Enter a unique name for the alias component in the Component Name dialog box. 5 To have the aliases displayed in the Components list box, select the Visible checkbox (checkmark visible). To not have the aliases displayed, deselect the Visible checkbox (checkmark not visible). Any component that has one or more aliased component linked to it has a plus (+) sign displayed to the right of the component ID. To display a list of the aliased components for a selected component, select the + sign. The + sign switches to a minus (-) sign and all the aliased components are displayed in a list. In the following sample, the aliased components for COMP13 are displayed. The + sign next to COMP12 indicates there is at least one aliased component. Select the - sign to hide the list. 6 Unalias Use the Unalias option to remove the links between aliased components. After the Unalias option is used, previously aliased components are independent from one another. An aliased component must be selected in the Components list box before this option is available. To remove alias links to a selected component: 1 Select the aliased component in the Components list box. 2 Select the Component menu bar heading. 3 Select the Unalias menu option. A confirmation message is displayed. 4 Select Yes. All alias links to the selected component are removed. Comprehensive Export Use the Comprehensive Export feature to copy component data for a selected component to an ASCII file. For details about the structure of the exported file, refer to the Comprehensive Import/Export module. To export component data for a selected component: 1 From the Categories list box, select the category of the component to export. 2 From the Component list box, select the component(s) to export. To select more than one component, hold the [Ctrl] key while selecting components. 3 Select: Component > Comprehensive Export The Export Database File dialog box is displayed. 4 Enter a filename for the component data file. The filename can contain up to 8 characters with a 3-character extension. (Example: database.txt) 5 Select OK. A messages indicates the component data has been successfully saved. 6 Select OK. The exported file is stored in the IMUPS\CAD directory. Select Components Use the Select Components option to display selected components in the Components list box regardless of their category. The selected components can then be modified as a unit. This option is typically used in conjunction with the option Change Components in List. To select components: 1 Select the Components menu bar heading. 2 Select the Select Components menu option. 3 Select the desired components. To select more than one component, hold the [Ctrl] key while selecting each component. To select all components, select the first component in the list and drag the cursor to the end of the list. 4 List Product Components Use the List Product Components option to list all components used in the current open product. These components are displayed in the Components list box. This option is only available if a product is currently open. To list the components in a product: 1 From the Product Editor window, open the product for which you want to view a list of components. 2 From the Component Database window, select the Component menu bar heading. 3 Select the List Product Components menu option. The components used in the selected product are displayed in the Components list box. Change Components in List Use the Change Components in List option to change all components displayed in the Components list box according to defined parameters. The Change Components in List dialog box defines the parameters of the change. The change parameters must include the following data. . Field: the portion of the component definition that is to be changed. . Operator: the scope of the change. An = indicates that the Field will become the Value; a + indicates that the Field will be increased by the Value; a - indicates that the Field will be decreased by the Value. . Value: the increment of the change. Examples: Component Length + 50 Result: The Component Length of the selected components is increased by 0.050. Component Width = 200 Result: The Component Width of the selected components is changed to 0.200. More than one change can be defined in each session. As each change is defined, it is added to the List of Changes list box. When the Change button is selected, the changes are then applied in the order they appear in the list. The Add and Delete buttons are used to add and delete changes from the List of Changes before the Change button is selected. Use this procedure to change the components based on a defined set of parameters. 1 Every component displayed in the Components list box will be affected by the change so it is very important that only the appropriate components are displayed there. 2 Select the Component menu bar heading. 3 Select the Change Components in List menu option. The Change Components in List dialog box is displayed. 4 In the Field List, double-click on the field to be changed. Valid entries for the selected field are listed in the Valid List. 5 Double-click on the appropriate operator. 6 Enter the appropriate value. The valid entries are listed in the Valid List. 7 Once the change is defined, select the Add button. The change string is displayed in the List of Changes. 8 Repeat steps 4 through 7 for additional changes. Changes are applied in the order they appear in the List of Changes. To delete a change, select the change in the List of Changes and then select the Delete button. 9 When all necessary changes have been defined, select the Change button. A confirmation box is displayed. 10 Select Yes to affect the change(s) or select No to return to the Change Components in List dialog box. Once the change has been made, it can be verified by opening the definition of any of the components in the Components list box. Delete Use the Delete option to remove selected components from the open database. Only components in the Components list box are available for deletion. To delete components from the open database: 1 From the Categories list box, select the category that contains the component to delete. 2 From the Components list box, select the component(s) to be deleted (boxcap in the example). 3 From the Component Database window, select: Component > Delete 4 A confirmation message is displayed. 5 Select Yes to delete the selected component(s). Select No to return to the Component Database window. Print Use the Print option to send the definition(s) of all selected component(s) to the default printer. Only components in the Components list box are available for selection. To print a component definition: 1 From the Component Database window, select the component(s) to print definitions for (boxcap in the example). 2 From the Component Database window, select: Component > Print 3 Category Categories group component types within the database. The category determines which data fields are available for the component definition. Use the Category menu bar heading to manipulate categories of component types. The following options are available. . New . Rename . Delete New Use the New option to add a unique category to the open component database. To add a new category to the database: 1 Select the Category menu bar heading. 2 Select the New menu option. The Select Machine Type dialog box is displayed. 3 Select the machine type on which the component is to be processed and select OK. The New Category dialog box is displayed. 4 Enter a unique name for the new category in the Category Name data field. 5 Select OK. A confirmation message is displayed. 6 Select OK. The new category is displayed in the Categories list box. Components can now be added to the new category. Rename Use the Rename option to change the name of an existing category in the open database. Only user-defined categories can be renamed. UIC-predefined categories cannot be renamed. To rename a category: 1 Select the Category menu bar heading. 2 Select the Rename menu option. The Select Category to Rename dialog box is displayed with a list of categories eligible to be renamed. 3 Select the category to be renamed from the User-Defined Categories list box. 4 Select OK. The Rename Category dialog box is displayed. 5 Enter the new name for the category in the Category Name data field. 6 Select OK. A confirmation message is displayed. 7 Select OK. The category is renamed in the Categories list box.
